Update for Pepita

The cement floor is nice and cool!

Dear Pepita Fans,

If Ms. Pepita had the option, she’d be a snowbird and live in Texas or Florida.  She likes the heat!

These days she spends her time in the solarium with her friends Hazey, Vinnie, and Malora.  She just loves it out there, even in what has been extremely hot and humid conditions, with a heat index of over 100. We keep the ceiling fan on and plenty of water for them.  95 degrees that feels like 100+ doesn’t even have her seeking the inside suite.

When she gets too warm, she lays on the cool concrete floor by the door or under the bench.  I imagine it must be super cool there in the shade.  Other times, she can be found in a big cat bed in the chair or on the blanket on the bench.

Last week, Pepita took over Hazey’s overnight crate to stay cool. She only came out for a brief greeting and water break, then right back in.

Gentle Pepita enjoys visitors and will jump up on the bench with them to be petted.  Last week a wonderful volunteer visited and noticed black fur all over the solarium floor and in her hand after petting her.  She was shedding so much!  That’s when the volunteer grabbed a brush.

Can you believe this much fur came from Pepita?

Pepita is not a big fan of the brushing activity, but she laid next to the volunteer on the bench and let her brush her for a little bit.  An amazing amount of fur came off so she really needed it (as you can see at right). The word is out to all the volunteers: Pepita’s coat needs attention whenever they visit! Let’s get her to like that brushing.

Hazey is melting!

In medical news, your sweet girl had one note of vomiting after getting her meds and being expressed. She also had a skin flare this month, but it is healing up nicely. All in all, she is doing well.

Thanks to your devotion and generosity, our little pumpkin seed is a happy kitty and seems to enjoy her new Suite B. She looks great and would love to show off for you if you have the chance to visit.

Enjoy the rest of the summer fun, and let’s hope in Ringoes that the temperatures moderate for the other kitties, even if Pepita is a heat diva!
