Greetings, wonderful Pepita sponsors!
I first want to welcome all of Macaroon’s sponsors who join now in sponsoring Pepita. I’m sure you were over the moon to hear that Macaroon was adopted last month and is going to be living the dream of being an only cat in her forever home! Pepita, you will find through these updates, is a sweet girl who draws in the staff and volunteers with her loving nature. I encourage you to read past updates to get a sense of this wonderful girl you are now sponsoring. Welcome to Pepita’s world!
The lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer find our gentle girl as content as ever, cooking herself to the max. As I’ve mentioned numerous times, Pepita’s love of the solarium is matched only by her love of cuddles, playtime, and lap time. When rising temperatures render the solarium intolerable for most other cats, Pepita prevails, claiming her spot on her favorite chair (others have a tough time getting any chair time), on one of the towering shelves, or on a “chill” mat on the floor. Pepita and her usual mates of Adam, Chewbacca and Abe make up an incredibly adorable quartet as they compete to match each other all the way up the thermometer in the solarium.
Pepita has enjoyed a healthy, happy month with no medical news to report. She looks great and is ready to welcome the fall soon, with its crisp air and cool breezes to whip up fallen leaves and make for a fascinating view from the solarium.
Last month I mentioned that one of Pepita’s suitemates, Rose, was suddenly struck by a severe infection that progressed to her brain. We were incredibly worried as she visited neurologists and was put on a regimen of heavy antibiotics. I am happy to report that Rose is doing much better, but still is being watched carefully and has a long way to go to get back to her completely normal self.
After being in the medical suite for a while, Rose has been moved to the lobby as it is a wide open space and is a better space for her care right now. She is adjusting well to the lobby and her dedicated correspondent ensures that an almost daily visit to her old solarium (under supervision) takes place, as Rose has always been as enamored by the solarium as our dear Pepita is. The ramp in the solarium is off limits for Rose because she is still a bit unsteady, but she so loves snoozing on the hammocks and enjoying the sun and fresh air.
Pepita has been an absolute love this past month when I visit, relishing in the petting, playtime, and treats, purring all the while. She never ceases to amaze me with her adorable nature; many volunteers and visitors fall in love with her at first visit.
Tabby’s Place is in the last few weeks (until Sept 30) of the Linda Fund Matching Challenge, which raises funds for the medical needs of the kitties. Without the Linda Fund, we would not be able to care for so many kitties (such as Rose) with severe and often sudden medical needs. Donations are matched through the end of this month, so please share with your friends who love felines where they can donate to help save even more kitties: The Linda Fund.
Thank you for all you do for Pepita each month to keep her healthy and happy at Tabby’s Place. Unlike Macaroon, Pepita might not find her forever home since she would require a very special family to express her bladder multiple times each day and help her manage her incontinence and frequent urinary tract infections. But your generosity keeps her happy in her home at Tabby’s Place and for that we are forever grateful.
Enjoy the days leading up to fall. As Jim Bishop noted, “Autumn carries more gold in its pocket than all the other seasons.” I look forward to bringing you more Pepita updates in October.
