Update for Pepita

Greetings dear Pepita sponsors,

Pepita hopes you are all hanging in there and managing your way through the ups and downs of the last month, taking good care and staying safe and well.  Though I was hoping this month to be with Pepita and showering her with love, the world of New Jersey remained locked down these past weeks and Tabby’s Place is not yet open to volunteers and to visitors.

Fear not, though, as the kitties are in the best of hands! The wonderful Tabby’s Place staff continues at their labor of love:  feeding the fur babies, cleaning their rooms, laundering their blankets and beds, administering their medications, completing other essential work, and providing much petting, loving, and playtime.

This, in addition to now arranging for virtual visits to cats who are up for adoption and processing those adoptions in a whole new way!  This is very exciting, as it allows adoptions to still take place, even though visitors are not permitted in the building.  A number of adoptions have already taken place in this way.

Whew! I am exhausted just thinking about all they are doing in the absence of volunteers to share the work. Knowing each of the staff members, however, this comes as no surprise. Their hearts are overflowing with love for the cats and they are willing to do anything and everything to provide the best care and home for these adorable creatures.

Pepita had a healthy month and her fur is growing back nicely.  She has less allergy medicine in her life as an experiment to see if her fur will continue to improve.  Here you can see a video of staff member Lisa giving Pepita some morning love.  You can see how her fur is growing back as she turns about on the tower:

Lisa also provided a bunch of lovely photos of our darling girl for you to enjoy.  You can see that she is still getting regular stroller rides outside, enjoying the fresh air and the now warmer weather.  She and several other kitties at the sanctuary enjoy these stroller rides regularly now.  And she loves to hang out on the ramp with some of the other kitties in Suite A, including Chewbacca (or Chewie, for short), who is shown here—a petite gray and white, still shy boy who steals your heart.

We are all trying our best to cope with the uncertainty of the days ahead.  Trying to cope with uncertainty is important, but sometimes so is turning off your brain, and for a little while, doing nothing.  And being gentle with yourself is important, too.  A great friend of mine always used to say, “There’s no extra credit for stress!”  If only it were so easy, but I do remind myself of that saying daily. And then there is this wisdom: “It’s not what happens to you, but how you react to it that matters,” says Epictetus, a Greek philosopher.

We wish you all the best in moving ahead day to day.  Thank you for supporting Pepita even in these difficult times. Your generosity means the world to us.

Your correspondent,
Sheila
