Update for Pepita

Happy Holidays to all Pepita’s sponsors!

We begin with good news on the health front for Pepita. It’s been a mellow, happy month for our gentle girl. Pepita lost a small amount of weight, only to regain it, so we’re not too concerned. (Our girl has a long history of fluctuating weight, anyway.) No urinary tract infections plagued her, so that is great news!

The solarium seems to still be home base for Pepita, despite chilly temps today when I visted with her. Her big dilemma today was whether to hang out in the small igloo and enjoy the heated pad that is in there, or to take advantage of a brand new paper bag that I brought for her delight. Decisions, decisions! I could see she was torn, as she would go rapidly back and forth between the two during my visit, depriving me of lap time, but probably figuring that the igloo was a warmer spot than my lap on this winterish day.

You can see from the second photo that Chewbacca just wanted in on the picture, as he photo bombed Pepita in the igloo. I had the pleasure of Steven, Rorschach, Abe and Chewbacca today in the solarium, as well as Pepita. The Tabby’s Place staff put up a clear plastic barrier over the top half of the outside fencing, so that some of the wind was stemmed, making it a tad bit warmer than outside, with the solarium still receiving lots of fresh air.

We seem to have reached a more peaceful place in Suite A. Abe and Rorschach were brawling bruisers this fall, but as they continue to settle in, they’re getting along much better with their neighbors. I did see a bit of hissing between Pepita and Rorschach today, but he was also generally restless until I took him back to the inside portion of the suite, where Boom and Adam promptly greeted him with a few hisses of their own. But there was no brawling, so that is a very good thing. And there have not been any new residents to Pepita’s suite in a while, which bodes well for keeping the peace.

Our 2nd annual Thanksgiving with the Cats this year was a huge success, drawing in a wonderful crowd of ‘never been to Tabby’s Place’ visitors, toting huge quantities of donations in the form of cat food, litter, toys, and treats. The cats enjoyed the interactions and the visitors received tours and became aware of our mission and how the sanctuary operates.

This month of December Tabby’s Place is offering $50 adoption fees, so please spread the word! There are so many wonderful cats and kittens who are ready for their forever homes.

“He who marvels at the beauty of the world in summer will find equal cause for wonder and admiration in winter.” John Burroughs had it right! We all can find wonder in the winter and especially in this holiday season. And your amazing support and generosity for Pepita is a wonder that warms our hearts. As we celebrate yet another year of your kindness, thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Happy Holidays to you and your dear ones!
