Update for Olive

Update for Olive

Brrr – January has been so cold!

Fabulous Feline Fuzzy February Greetings to you, faithful friend and sponsor!

What a month January turned out to be!  It has been so cold here in New Jersey (we’re talking negative numbers cold), and we do feel it when the lobby doors open for visitors. Fortunately, we are kept warm and toasty, thanks to heating pads and heaters.

Well, so much for the usual time to unwind after the holidays. Tabby’s Place has been a whirlwind of activities!

Before I fill you in on all that has been happening,  I will update you on she who matters most around here, and that would be me, Olive, Queen of the Lobby!

I had a great month in terms of my health and have been my usual spirited self, ruling everyone with my iron paw.  Being the beautiful Lobby Queen, I must oversee everyone and everything!

January also provided few fun dates on our special Cat Calendar, which I just have to tell you about!

Doing nothing – all day long!

On January 16th, we observed National Nothing Day.  Imagine: a day to hang around, do nothing but take it easy, and take maybe one or ten naps.

Many of us had no problem doing nothing all day!  It was hard for Berry and Willow, since they are so young and just never seem to sit still. Of course, good ol’ Hips refused to stay out of trouble and leave Marcia and me alone (fortunately for us, that dude has been adopted and is not here to annoy us anymore!).

The rest of us enjoyed a day of lounging around like royal felines and being waited on, as we justly deserve.

Your Feline Valentine event – I am ready to greet everyone!

On January 22nd, we had our second annual National Answer Your Cat’s Questions Day.  While we learned some new little known and fun facts about our staff and volunteers, our Executive Director, Jonathan Rosenberg, refused to tell me about that one embarrassing time when he…he…well, the rest of that remains a mystery to me!  Maybe next year I will get the entire story to share with you!

Oh, and you will not believe this, because it is something that does not happen very often, but we had an actual honest to goodness sleepover!   Oh my gosh, it was so much fun!   I have to thank the sky for this one, because it dumped so much snow on quiet little Ringoes, New Jersey, that the snow ended up piling up higher than the tips of my ears!  Thank goodness I am inside where I am warm and safe, because no one would ever have found me in all the snow!

But back to what I was saying—because of all the snow, and the roads being messy with some kind of an emergency for everyone, we had sleepovers with our devoted staff members.  It was so much fun!!!  There were huge people-sized kitty beds on the floor, and we stayed up all night cuddling with them, telling scary stories, and having snacks.  Did I tell you what a blast it was??

My sign. But not happy at the last part….

We are all so grateful to Carolyn, Jae, Grace, Gail, and Colin for staying with us through the storm, as well as the staff and volunteers who braved the roads when able to get to us.  They all made sure we were safe, cared for, and did not get scared.   It really was a special and fun time for us, and then when the storm passed, we had the joy of again seeing all our regular friends.

All I ask of you, great big sky, is to give us more snow and another sleepover, please!

Just as fun and exciting as the sleepover was Your Feline Valentine, last weekend’s open house. What an incredible day it was, full of visitors and Valentine surprises.  As the lobby greeter, I was ready and waiting bright and early, and I was thrilled to greet so many sponsors and supporters throughout the event.

Berry in the Kissing/Hissing Booth

What was really great was that I had my own special sign posted in the lobby, acknowledging me as the phenomenal greeter.   Ah, yes, the recognition that I justly deserve!  However, I will say it annoyed me that they suggested limiting pets to avoid my nipping.  Seriously, do something like that maybe a few hundred times or so, and you are unfairly labeled a nipper.

Sadly, I never did get my turn in the Kissing (Hissing) booth this year.  After performing my greeter duties, I headed right on over so that I could give out lots of Hisses—I mean Kisses—but apparently Berry was so exhausted from all the kissing that he just plopped over and went to sleep.  Only Berry…..

To those who could not make it this year, I know you were thinking of me, just as I was thinking of you.  Of course, it does not take a special event for me to welcome you to Tabby’s Place—I am always happy to see everyone whenever they are able to stop by!

Wake Up Berry!!!

I was sure to make everyone very aware that January 29th was officially celebrated as Tuxedo Cat Appreciation Day!   An entire day in honor of me, a distinctively beautiful and stylish black-and-white kitty.  I did share the honor and celebration with my handsome and favorite guy, Colonel Peabody, since he handsomely wears Tuxedo as well (and he is such a hottie!!).   We had a great day with plenty of praise and some extra treats since we are so gorgeous and special!

As we sail on through February, I want you to know that you are on my mind and in my heart each and every day.  My life is so much richer because of you, your generous love and support.  I am always grateful for you.

With heartfelt love,
Queen Olive
