Update for Olive

Drinks are on Olive… stay hydrated!

Hello, Olive Fanciers!

It’s time for another update on our girl. There isn’t much to report medically this month, which is always lovely. We have noted a few areas of hair loss from those parts of her legs that rub the ground regularly, but those are minor enough that they don’t require any treatment.

Olive – objecting to something!

We have had a couple of adoptions from the lobby, and Oliver is new in the lobby this month, filling in a space where another kitty was adopted. He’s a beautiful orange male, very mellow, and, so far he and Olive have been able to co-exist peacefully, always a plus. Sad to say, this is not true with every feline sharing the lobby with Olive. A few weekends ago, our girl was snoozing peacefully in a cat bed right up against the front door (always a favorite sleeping location of hers), and I saw Hips stalking her. This was definitely not play; he was very serious about it. Fortunately, I was able to stand in front of Olive and shield her with my legs, thus deflecting a clearly pissed-off Hips. We think Hips is in some discomfort from a front leg, and this might be how he demonstrates that.

If you’ve followed Olive for any length of time, you know she loves to sit by the glass doors that lead to Quinn’s Corner. It’s clear she understands that her food comes from that area (our food prep room/kitchen is in Quinn’s Corner), and it’s adorable to watch her scoot as fast as she can to follow the volunteer feeding lunch in the lobby. It’s not quite so cute when she manages to get through the doors, though! We have to watch our feisty girl very carefully; if she’s not by the glass doors leading to Quinn’s Corner, she’s probably sitting by the front door, perhaps testing her luck to see if she can sneak through there.

Waiting for lunch!

Olive is being removed from our stroller list, at least for the time being. If you don’t know, Tabby’s Place has a few strollers, and we regularly take certain cats for airings in the strollers for enrichment. Most of the cats we take for strolls love it, but it doesn’t always work out. It seems our girl has not been consistently enjoying her stroller walks lately, and she’s been extra cranky about being handled by the folks who take the cats for strolls. I know she enjoys being out on the lawn in an enclosed area during warmer weather, so perhaps we can start that up for her again.

I am so grateful that you’ve chosen to help us keep Olive well-loved and well-cared for.  See how she is enjoying her new catnip rainbow toy at this link!

Thank you!
