Update for Olive

Update for Olive

Greetings, Olive Aficionados!

It’s time for another update on our feisty girl. Medically, there have been two notes of caution. Olive was noted to have strong-smelling urine at one point over the past month. That can be a sign of a urinary tract infection, but she does not appear to have developed a UTI, which is always good news. We have had to resume giving her lactulose, a medication that helps with her constipation. Lactulose is a thick liquid, and Olive does not enjoy it, but her stool was becoming much harder and difficult to express, and the lactulose genuinely helps with that.

Over the past few weeks, it’s been cool and damp, so Olive wasn’t able to get outside. But now we are entering a pattern of drier and warmer weather, at least for a while, so we expect that our lobby greeter will be able to spend some quality time in an outdoor enclosure. This will be great mental stimulation for her, and we know she loves her outdoor encounters.

Tabby’s Place held a volunteer orientation and open house a few weeks ago. I was there helping to set up and expected to see Olive in the middle of the action, but to my surprise, she spent the time dozing in one of her favorite places in the lobby, at the base of a cat tree.

And Olive’s dislike for other felines getting in her face is being put to the test now. New-to-the-lobby Mika, a young and very active cat, is currently turning our lobby upside down with her shenanigans. While I don’t expect Olive to welcome Mika’s doings with open arms (open paws?) and purrs, I do believe that either Mika will be adopted very quickly or she will learn with equal speed to stay out of Olive’s way.

Our little black-and-white girl keeps on keepin’ on. And we can continue to care for and cherish her because of your generosity. Thank you!

Stephanie
