Update for Olive

Loaf of Olive!

It’s autumn, Olive aficionados! While some bemoan the passing of summer, we know our girl loves to see fallen leaves swirl past the front doors when the wind blows. Overall, Olive has been in good health this month; as always, we are very pleased when that happens.

Olive has become somewhat better about taking her meds. Of course, we continue to give her meds in pill pockets, but until recently she was an expert at eating the pill pockets and spitting out the meds. That still happens sometimes, but we have begun a serious attempt to control her access to treats for the rest of the day, so she’s more likely to gobble treats down, meds and all, when she does get them. Controlling her treats in this manner will also help us control her weight, which is especially important for her. Will this strategy enjoy continued success, or will Olive once again outwit the humans around her? We’ll just have to wait and see.

Contemplating playtime!

One of our staff noted that expressing Olive would be considerably easier for all parties involved if she’d simply relax a bit. I’m sure that’s true, but our little feisty girl has some very definite ideas about the way things should be in her world, and being expressed by humans does not fit in with her plans. Yes, some time back we did start her on a medication designed specifically to get Olive more relaxed, but it does not seem to be doing the job at this point. Our vet team will likely be re-evaluating the situation again soon.

2020 continues to keep us all on a roller coaster ride, so I appreciate all the more that you’ve continued your generosity in helping us provide for our wonderful lobby greeter. We look forward to the time when we can welcome everyone back to Tabby’s Place, and I’m sure Olive feels the same way. Thank you!
