Update for Lester

Dear friends,

It’s been a pretty mellow August for me. My scratch-free nose provides hard evidence that I haven’t picked any fights with my roommates in a while. And I’ve been good to the kind Tabby’s Place staff, too. Apparently, I’ve gone from being “the worst cat to medicate in all of Tabby’s Place” to “great and very mellow” when it comes giving me my medication. Someone even called me “gentle.” Me, gentle, can you believe it?

Most of the time, I’ve tried to be a cool cucumber, slightly aloof, like I can take the love or leave it. Maybe I was just protecting myself because I was afraid of getting hurt. But with time and perspective, I’m finally realizing that no one will ever give up on me again. I’ve got a home filled with love for the rest of my life.

The dynamics of the FIV+ suite have also shifted over time toward a gentler, sweeter group of cats. I guess it’s rubbing off on me. During a recent visit, while everyone else was outside in the solarium, I was curled up in my favorite chair inside. As soon as visitors arrived, I showed them my belly, then followed them around – jumping from furniture to cat tree – to let them know I was in the market for some love. I’ve seen this attention-seeking tactic work wonders for some of the other cats in the FIV+ suite and figured I’d give it a try. I think I like it. 🙂

My buddy Dwayne (pictured at left) went and got himself a ‘lion cut,’ where they shave your body, but leave a big hairy head, a poof at the end of the tail, and what look like furry boots. This new, fancy haircut has served him well. I hear he’s on hold to be adopted. I may need to speak with his barber.

I hope you’re enjoying the slightly cooler weather. As always, I’m incredibly thankful for your love and support, and I’m sending you furry hugs and kisses.

Your friend,
Lester
