Update for Kitten Fund

Dear Kitten Lovers,

Octavia

Love and kittens are always synonymous, but it does seem particularly appropriate during the love-smacked month of February. As Tabby’s Place continues to expand into its new digs, Quinn’s Corner (which will officially open to the public later this year), we see positive changes around every corner. Although some of the struggles that our feline residents have to endure seem so difficult, we are always comforted by the care and love they are able to receive as part of the Tabby’s Place community.

You may remember the news of little Octavia from last month. She has had her bilateral enucleation surgery (removal of both eyes) because both her eyes were non-functional. One of her eyes was underdeveloped and the other had been previously damaged from severe infection, which had occurred before she came to Tabby’s Place. We hope for her recovery to her best level of well-being.

Linnie

Another medically involved, special needs kitten is, Bonifacia. Her bloodwork has shown an increased white blood cell count, suggesting infection, without other diagnostic indicators. Currently, a bile acid panel will be run to see if her liver is functioning properly. An abdominal ultrasound was done to check a liver shunt but the results were inconclusive. A liver shunt is a blood vessel abnormality that results in blood being diverted to the heart and bypassing the liver, an unwelcome detour! Shunts can be the result of a birth defect or acquired from chronic liver disease. This little baby has a lot on her medical plate and will be going for a specialty internal medicine consultation. We are, of course, hoping for the best possible outcome with all of the challenges she is facing.

Doodles, not to be confused with Scribbles (minor joke), is an older kitten who arrived recently and became part of Tabby’s Place’s supportive foster care family. The lucky winners of this month’s neuterings were: Marv, Harry, Monk, and Roswell and the spayings were: Rogue, Soup, Salad, Linnie, Marian, and Octavia. I know Octavia, with all she has gone through this month, has definitely earned some pampering.

Bonifacia

Thank you for your steadfast commitment to the mission of Tabby’s Place as we continue to strive to take care of cats in the most desperate of situations. Your support is deeply appreciated. As always, please direct anyone you know who might be interested in volunteering to the website to fill out an application.

Thank You!
