Dear Jude friends,
It has been a fairly uneventful month for Jude, which in Jude’s world is a good thing.
There have been no seizures, and she seems to do be doing very well. About a week ago I thought she was going into a seizure because her front leg did a few little twitches. In seconds I stood over her with the rescue meds in hand. It turned out to be nothing, and she did not have a seizure. I may be a little overprotective of her, but history has taught me things can get bad very fast.
One of Jude’s friends bought her a huge tub of toys that make noise. Being blind, Jude needs this, so she can keep track of where her toys are. I surrounded Jude with all her new toys, and she was so excited and happy. She didn’t know which toy to play with first and had a wonderful time batting them all over the bedroom. After a while, all the toys were under the dressers, so I dug them all out and she started again. She is such a playful little girl and enjoys nothing more than being surrounded by toys.
Jude has a habit of holding on to her urine and only does one good pee a day. I’m not sure if this is because it’s hard work for her to get in and out of the litterbox, or she just doesn’t feel it until she really has to go. I have a feeling it’s the latter because she has a very low litterbox, and I have seen her get in and out of it very easily.
Her litterbox is in her playpen, where she spends overnights, so she has usually used the litterbox by morning. Lately though, she often has not done anything by morning. I do not want her to have to spend extra time in her playpen, so once she has had her breakfast, if she still hasn’t done anything in the box, I have been expressing her bladder. She doesn’t really like this and gets quite angry with me, but the second she starts to pee she immediately stops complaining and seems relieved. I also not do want her holding onto her urine because that can cause infections in her bladder, and she doesn’t need any more issues. There is a low litterbox in the bedroom that she could use, but she completely refuses to even consider using any box except her own in her playpen.
It always surprises me that Jude is always so happy to go into her playpen each night. I would think she would prefer to stay out in the bedroom, but maybe after a day of activity, she is ready for some peace. As soon as she goes into her playpen she eats her supper, and then settles herself down on her comfy bed, stretches out, and goes to sleep. By morning all she wants to do is eat breakfast as quickly as possible and get out of her playpen. She’s rested and ready for a new day, and her toys are waiting for her.
Jude seems to have some trouble eating dry food. More falls out of her mouth than she actually eats, but she keeps trying. She gets wet food three times a day, which she can eat much easier, but she still likes to try to eat some dry food.
That’s all the Jude news for now. As always, thank you all for your continued support of Jude, we couldn’t do this without you.
