Update for Jude

Dear Jude Friend,

Our little Jude had a pretty good month, even though she had 10 seizures this month. Only one seizure was a large one and the others were over very quickly. The one large seizure did require rescue medication, but the other ones did not, as they passed on their own very quickly.

Jude did have quite a few baths this month because she tends to poop and scoot herself through it. She seems to be getting more tolerant of having a bath lately, maybe because she knows she is nice and clean afterward. I don’t think she will ever be super easy for a bath (or anything else for that matter)—she will always growl and let us know she is not happy about the situation, but she isn’t anywhere near as angry as she used to be.

I did block off under the bed in Jude’s room because she would always choose to go under there to poop, which made things very difficult to clean. It’s much easier now that she can’t go under the bed.

Overall Jude had a happy, mellow month. She enjoyed the nice warm days when the windows could be open, and she could lay in the spring breeze. You can see on her face that she loves doing that—it brings her such peace and happiness.

For the last few weeks, I had changed Jude’s food over to a fiber food, which usually helps the cats that have loose stool. With Jude, however, it did not work and seemed to make matters worse. I kept trying for a few weeks, hoping it would make a difference, but eventually, it became clear it was not going to help. I transitioned her back to her regular food and it does seem a little better:  her stool is not super soft, still a little on the soft side, but mostly better. Our Jude is not a picky eater and is happy to eat whatever is put in front of her, although she doesn’t really like fish foods.  She prefers her food to be poultry.

Jude and her little mini-me, Luvs, are still getting along very well. Luvs goes into Jude’s room many times throughout the day to visit for a while, and they are getting along with each other very well. Luvs often curls up in Jude’s bed to take a nap, and Jude doesn’t even mind her doing that. Luvs is extremely calm around Jude. I think she understands that is what Jude needs from her. Luvs saves all her crazy energy for Kaipo, who is young and crazy himself, so it’s a perfect match.
We decided we are going to adopt Luvs (she has been our foster for the last few months) because we love her, and she gets along so well with our current cats. Plus, now Kaipo uses his play energy on her and doesn’t drive everyone else crazy.

Due to the increased number of seizures over the last few months, we are going to have to check Jude’s bloodwork, so we can check if she needs an increase in her medications. I am going to do the bloodwork at home, so it is easier on Jude. Whenever Jude has to travel to Tabby’s Place she gets extremely stressed and always goes into seizures, so we want to avoid that if we can. Hopefully, I can get the blood from her at home, so we can avoid her having to make the trip to Tabby’s Place.

That’s all the Jude news for now. As always, thank you so much for everything you do for Jude.  She really appreciates you being her friend.
