Update for Jude

Dear Jude Friends,

Jude and I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season, and we hope the new year is fabulous for you all.

Jude had a very nice Christmas, and she received lots of new toys. Her favorite toys are still the crinkle balls because she can hear them and follow them easily. Jude got a whole stocking full of toys and treats, which seemed to make her happy. I sat with her while we unpacked her stocking, and she seemed curious about what was going on. She was smelling the air, with her head raised up, trying to find out what all the excitement was about. She played with her toys for a while, had a few treats, and then she was tired, so she took a nap.

Jude had 4 seizures this month. Three of them were in the same week, almost back-to-back, and all of those 3 seizures were in the middle of the night. I heard them start and ran to her as fast as possible. They all passed quickly, and she didn’t need the rescue meds. The 4th seizure happened about two weeks later, and this one passed quickly too and didn’t require rescue meds. Although all these seizures were grand mal seizures, I am happy to see them passing quickly with no medicine intervention. I hold her, of course, while she is having a seizure, to keep her from harming herself. Her bladder usually lets go when she has a grand mal seizure, so I have learned to keep a towel near her playpen, so I can quickly wrap her in the towel. The towel is comforting for Jude, and it stops me from getting urine all down my legs (which has happened many, many times).

As soon as Jude comes out of her playpen in the morning she heads straight to the food bowl (this is the same food bowl that I just took out of her playpen), and eats like she didn’t have the very same food all night long!

Now it is getting dark much earlier, Jude wants to go to bed in her playpen much earlier. She doesn’t like still being out in the room once it is dark (even if the lights are on). And if I am running a little behind schedule, and get her to bed a few minutes late, she is very angry and will let me know loudly. Jude is a creature of habit, and she wants things to be exactly how she wants them, every single day.  Luckily, she’s a princess in our house, and we do anything we can to make sure she has everything she needs, exactly when she needs it.

Jude got some poop stuck in her fur the other day, so she had to have a bath. She did not approve of this horrible act that we bestowed upon her, and she got very angry indeed. Even when it came time to dry her (which she usually tolerates), she was so angry and yelling at us. I put her in her playpen to calm down for a while and went back to check on her about an hour later. She was still so mad at me! I gave her treats…. still mad. I told her I was sorry…. still mad. I tried to pet her….. REALLY MAD!!  About 2 hours later she had finally calmed down and was back to her usual self. Phew!

That’s all the Jude news for now. Thank you for your continued support during this pandemic. We were very nervous about how things would go with donations, and what would happen to the cats if the donations didn’t come in. We didn’t need to worry, because you all came through for us, and because of your kindness 2020 was a good year for Tabby’s Place, and the cats got everything they needed.  We can’t thank you enough for your generosity and friendship.
