Update for Jeremiah

At last! We are delighted to announce that we have officially beaten back the ringworm infestation at Tabby’s Place. We’re all greatly relieved by this, not least the cats, who won’t have to endure any more medications or dipping.

Jeremiah is in fine fettle these days, conserving his energy for the long winter ahead. The best way for our Big Guy to do this’ Move as little and eat as much as possible, and he is expert at both. Like most of our kitties, Jeremiah prefers to snack multiple times a day on the dry food we free-feed, rather than eat a lot at any one time. The exception to this is wet food, which we give our cats three times a week as a treat. Jeremiah always gobbles down all of his portion immediately, lest any of the other cats try to ’muscle in’ on his share.

Despite his devotion to rest, Jeremiah will play once in a while. One of our volunteers, who writes about Jack (a suite-mate of Jeremiah’s) was in the FIV+ suite, trying to snap a good picture of Jack by getting his attention with an interactive cat toy (you’ve seen the kind; they look like short fishing poles with string, and there’s a clump of feathers attached to one end of the string). Jack and Gus were playing with the toy alternately, when suddenly Jeremiah came over and began swatting at it. He played with the toy for several minutes before getting distracted; eventually, when the volunteer put the toy down so she could hold Jack on her lap, Jeremiah sat on the toy. The strategy here seems to be conquering by any means possible, even if you don’t recall that you’re conquering anything.

I know Jeremiah has really missed spending time in his solarium, and I’m hoping at least some days will still be warm enough for him to be able to soak up some rays there. He seems happiest when settled down in a sunny patch in the solarium, away from other cats competing for attention. Replacing his favorite snoozing spot, The Basket, is also a priority. He’ll sleep on a blanket or towel in a cubbyhole, certainly, but he has a definite preference for a comfortable container with higher sides.

As always, thank you for helping us take such good care of Jeremiah.
