Update for Colleen

Dear supporters of Colleen,

You have to love a place that loves a cat like Colleen so much. The other day after I finished my usual volunteering, I did my usual sauntering around the lobby and the community room, looking for our beautiful girl. One of the other volunteers alerted me that Colleen was in Jonathan’s office. Sure enough, she was cuddled on one of his chairs, and I didn’t need him to clue me in that she wasn’t in the best of shape. Everyone at Tabby’s Place, it seems, is clued in when Colleen is going through bad times.

This time the staff is making an all-out effort to keep Colleen out of isolation again. She has a suspicious spot of that “foul fungus,” as Angela calls it, on her ear, so they are diligently washing it with lime sulfur–anything to make sure that Colleen doesn’t come down with yet another case of ringworm.

If that wasn’t enough, Colleen also suffered an upper respiratory infection this month, which knocked her three sheets to the wind. Although these kinds of infections are not usually serious, Colleen was hit hard. She lost some weight, became dehydrated and was unsteady on her feet. The best way to treat her infection is with antibiotics. In addition, her subcutaneous fluid treatments have been increased from every other day to daily.

Colleen was also vomiting for a bit, and she was suffering with constipation. The staff treated her with an anti-nausea medication, which worked. Then, on October 30, the vet tech detected a small but troubling lump in Colleen’s abdomen. So far, X-rays have shown nothing notable, but the staff will continue to pursue the matter.

Of course, through of all this, Col remains the sweetest and most docile cat. She’s recently been enjoying naps besides Peachy in the Community Room, especially when the sun is out, as you can see at left.

I can’t resist picking her up and holding her in my lap. just to let her know how well loved she is. Despite everything, she is one lucky cat to be part of this lovely community that we call Tabby’s Place.

As always, Colleen and I thank you for your continued generosity. Have a lovely Thanksgiving.
