Update for Colleen

Dear supporters of Colleen,

There used to be a lovely sofa directly underneath one of the Community Room windows, where Colleen could be found, day after day, lounging in the sun. But over time, the sofa was moved, furniture was replaced, and I mourned the fact that our dear girl had to content herself with little cubbies to curl up in or boxes to squirrel away in — comfortable, certainly, but not the same.

The other day, when I wandered into the Community Room, I couldn’t believe my eyes. Colleen was basking in the sun, all curled up, content, on a cozy blanket in the sun. Yes! She had somehow managed to reclaim a spot in the sun again. Time had passed, and again furniture had been rearranged.

It doesn’t take much to make a cat happy: a little warm sun, a water fountain to drink out of, and Colleen’s in bliss.

I tiptoed over, snapped the photo and captured her, amidst the sweetest of dreams, no doubt. I always hate to disturb Col when she looks so peaceful and content. But, knowing she loves the attention, I couldn’t resist. I also know that such peaceful moments never last long, especially when I spotted nearby cages filled to the brim with cute and cuddly kittens just waiting to be released into the Community Room. (OK, that’s a slight exaggeration — but to Colleen, even one kitten is too many.)

Poor Colleen. Her fantasy retirement does not include kittens, I can assure you.

In medical news, Colleen is due for another cardiac ultrasound, and everyone at Tabby’s Place is optimistic. Since we’ve gotten Colleen’s hyperthyroidism under control, there’s good reason to expect her heart to be in much better shape than it was a few months ago, when she was diagnosed with significant heart disease. So fingers are crossed that positive results come back!

In the meantime, enjoy the lovely hot weather we’ve been having. And thanks, as always, for your continued generous support of Colleen.
