Update for Bubbles

Hello, fellow Bubble buddies,

Exciting news…Bubbles can PURR!!! I’m sure that sounds ridiculous. Of course she can purr, you must be thinking. Well, to my very pleasant surprise, Bubbles is purring when being pet with a wand toy.

But, first things first: my name is Leigh, one of the socializers at Tabby’s Place, and I will be your correspondent for at least the next few months. I am currently fostering Bubbles, and she is living in my home so I can work more closely with her.

Let me tell you a little about myself. I am a licensed veterinary technician in NJ with over 21 years experience in the field. I specialize in emergency and critical care at an animal hospital in northern NJ and also have experience in veterinary oncology. I have a husband who luckily is crazy about animals too. We have two sons, 10 and 12 years old, and they are head-over-heels in love with Bubbles already. Oh yeah, we have 8 cats and a Chihuahua mix. Yes, it is a small zoo.

I began volunteering at Tabby’s Place last year and was assigned Bubbles and Luna in the socialization program, because of my extensive experience with cats. I instantly loved them both. But there was just something about Bubbles, beyond the adorable face. She reminded me of one of my own cats, who we’d taken in as a feral cat. He was terrified of people, just like Bubbles. After many hours, weeks, and months, I was able to earn his trust, for the most part.

I feel that Bubbles has this potential, but needs a good amount of work and patience. I want to give her that chance of finding a forever home. I don’t know if she will ever be a lap cat per se, but I think a very reasonable goal for Bubbles is to be trusting of people and content in a home where she is loved. However, if a forever home is not meant to be, she will always be able to call Tabby’s Place her home, where she is already loved by so many.

So, enough chit chatting. Here is a wonderful update for Bubbles. She has been in our home for a week and has done really well, especially considering how much she has been through. She is eating well and using the litter box, yay! During the day, she has taken refuge next to the elliptical machine in her room (no working out for a while, I guess, haha). But at night, when all is quiet, she is quite the explorer. When I go into her room in the morning, I can tell she has been busy. Her food has been eaten, her toys are scattered about, and I can tell she has been in her cat tower looking out the window.

Most impressive, though, is the fact that she lets me pet her with a wand toy I made for her. She loves it, and yes, she purrs. She has sniffed my hands and brushed up against my arm, but I haven’t yet tried to pet her with my hand. We are still working on building trust. But, what a wonderful beginning. I couldn’t be happier with how she is doing. I am hopeful that, next month, I will have even more exciting news for you about her progress.

I cannot thank you enough for supporting Bubbles. She is so special, and it takes a special person like you to make it possible for her to have all the love and support she needs to become the confident little girl I know she can be.
