Update for Brielle

Update for Brielle

Happy June, Brielle’s beloveds.

We have hereby entered that balmy time of year when the living is easy, the temperatures are heavenly and even the cats seem lazily aware that something special is afoot.

Most of the cats, that is. It seems Brielle’s newest Community Room compadre didn’t get the memo that summer is made for serenity. But more on that in a moment: first let’s eliminate the non-aggressors in Brielle’s orbit.

With half-moon eyes smiling, Brielle was quite ready to cruise from spring to summer in sleepy, sweet-hearted peace. Unlike other Community Room residents (not to name names, but, um, Peachy, Bonnie and Maggie), Brielle is beatifically unruffled by the arrival of (lots of) kittens. With one ear cocked, Brielle watches the mad games of Sven and Tiki, Pavarotti and Figaro. Let ’em rampage, she seems to say. You’re only four weeks old once.

The kittens, interestingly, return Brielle’s benevolence by leaving her alone. While Peachy’s scornful looks meet tail-pouncing and Bonnie’s hisses are rewarded with tiny paws in her face, Brielle is neither the toy nor the tormentor of her tiniest neighbors. I know it’s no surprise to you, sweet sponsors, but now we have proof: Brielle gets along just beautifully with kittens.

In fact, Brielle’s only source of agita this month comes from older quarters. Much older.

None other than Annie has tangled with our tuxedo girl in June, and it’s anyone’s guess as to why.

At approximately 4 pounds and 400 years of age (give or take), Annie looks positively grandmotherly. Her dainty features and fragile frame hint at a cat of infinite gentleness.

But don’t be deceived: this is one pistol-packing Annie, at least if you’re a feline.

Annie may be elderly; she may be fighting a formidable cancer; and she may be the newest (old) kid on the Community Room block. But none of that is going to stop her from stirring things up with every single cat in her sight.

Annie flings herself at Peachy. She corners Colleen. She out-queens Queen.

And, alas, she does her darndest to get a rise out of Brielle.

As you can imagine, Brielle is no fan of Annie’s instigation. But if Annie’s looking for an easy mark, she’d best look elsewhere. Rather than take the bait, Brielle responds to Annie’s aggression by simply making as grateful an exit as possible (OK, with a requisite hiss or five). Sure enough, Annie has at this point largely given up on picking on Brielle.

Blessed are the peacemakers indeed.

And blessed is Brielle to have you in her life. Thank you for helping to keep our darling doll healthy, happy and serene in your love. Have a beautiful month!
