Update for Bacon

Dear Sponsors,

Close up–Bacon style

I’m always excited to get good news about Bacon. He has so many issues. He literally has a private residence. And he most likely gets the best veterinary care available to any cat these days. So, when I hear that Bacon had a good month, that his medical issues are under control for now, and that he’s doing well, I heave a sigh of relief.

Go Bacon!!!

I just love this cat. No, he’s not overly affectionate and cuddly, but when he notices you, when he saunters over to give you a sniff and half climbs into your lap—well, that is everything to me. Some cats are easy; Bacon is not.

When I arrive to visit him, we usually have a one-way conversation.

Bacon in all his glory.

He’s awake but a bit groggy so I plop myself on the floor outside his house.

“Hey buddy. How are you doing?”

He flashes me a Bacon smile, but he doesn’t move. I grab my old standby, the treat bag. His eyes widen as he saunters out of his house and makes a few rounds around the room. This is the usual protocol. He has a visitor but he’s more super excited that a treat awaits. It will take him a few minutes before he winds his way to me so I shake the bag. It makes a very distinctive crinkly sound. Bacon knows the sound. Treat Time! I drop a few snacks on the floor. Just in case, he sniffs first before he gobbles them up. And waits for more.

A boy who loves his treats

I would like a full-blown, tell-all conversation. I want him to talk about his life at Tabby’s Place. I want him to say that everyone is really nice here. I want him to admit he likes his food/snacks. I want him to rave about his new luxurious bed.

He looks relaxed.

“I notice you spend a lot of time on that new bed,” I say, trying to prompt him to say something.  He shrugs.

“More treats?” I shake the treat bag and he is willing and waiting.

“Yeah,” I finally say to him, “In my opinion, you live in a very special place.”

Bacon’s first selfie

He cocks his head as if considering. Then, most surprisingly, he wants to do a selfie.

Later, when I wander by, I sneak a glance in and he is cozied up on his luxurious bed, fast asleep. Ah, the life of a cat . . . His most favorite place!

Bacon and I thank you, as always, for your generosity. Tabby’s Place is a premier cat shelter because of you. Bacon and so many others live happy, safe lives because of you.

Bacon and I hope you have a ton of beautiful spring days.
