Update for Bacon

Dear Friends of Bacon,

As a long time vegetarian, I enjoy salty and smokey flavors, but don’t indulge in bacon. But offer me an opportunity to indulge my time with Bacon, and I’m all in.

Since Bacon’s correspondent is enjoying some travel time, I was thrilled to have an excuse to indulge in Bacon.

A Day in the Life of Bacon.

Bacon and I go way back to my earliest days at Tabby’s Place. Back then, he was living with a small group of shy kitties in the Special Needs suite. I was assigned to socialize two new residents of the suite, and I got to know a bit about Bacon when the medical team was still trying to figure out his medical condition and needs. That seems like a lifetime ago now, but Bacon is still his quirky self. Back then I was never entirely sure what mood Bacon would be in on a particular day, and I can say that some things about Bacon do not change.

I was recently doing morning medication rounds in the offices at Tabby’s Place and was responsible for cleaning out and setting up Bacon’s soft crate for his daytime downtime. While most of the time Bacon observes from nearby, this particular morning he was ALL IN on EVERYTHING that I was doing and providing quiet commentary on my speed in the form of little nips at my arm, my leg, my back, my shoe, etc. It was atypical behavior for Bacon, yet not at all outside his toolbox.

While I don’t share an office with Bacon, I do share an office wall with him as the Development Office and the Volunteer Office are side by side. One recent afternoon, I was working at my computer when I heard a bunch of pounding on the wall. My first thought was to ignore it (we have experienced lots of construction noise in the last year), but then I was wondering if someone was remodeling in the Volunteer Office. When the noise continued, and I remembered that no one was working in there that particular day, I got up to go see what was going on. I looked in through the window in the door, and Marcia was sticking her head out of her cube with eyes wide open. She looked as puzzled as I did. When I went in and saw Bacon sitting up in his crate yet looking a bit “out of it” I was quite certain that he had just experienced one of his seizures. This is a reminder about why Bacon has a soft-sided crate AND why he remains crated for part of the day to keep him safe from falling or other injuries.

Bacon wants to remind you to get out and Vote!

Bacon lost some weight this month, but not enough to be a medical concern. He also had some days of upset tummy resulting in vomiting and loose stool. He’s had several seizures this month (in addition to the one I just described), and is, once again, being a bit particular about his wet food.

But thanks to you, Bacon is loved and cared for each and every day no matter what “mood” he might be in on any particular day. It’s a joy and an honor to indulge in Bacon with you!

Your Guest Correspondent,
Lisa

P.S. The “political” poster pictured above showed up in the Volunteer Office earlier this year and it always makes me laugh. I thought it was the perfect time to share it with all of Bacon’s favorite people.
