Update for Bacon

Dear Friends of Bacon,

It is hot and humid outside, and that means that Tabby’s Place has begun its annual dance with the air conditioning. Because we operate a large building, and some of those areas operate on separate air flow systems, the staff never really know what to wear from one side of the building to the next. Parts of the building require extra fans blowing, while others require the wearing of cozy sweaters.

How Bacon spends his days.

So, why do I share this when I am really here to talk about Bacon? Well, that’s because it doesn’t seem to matter what is going on in the greater world around Bacon. Bacon just does Bacon.

This month, Bacon has been going from eating his wet food and expanding his tastes to not eating at all. His palate continues to be unpredictable.

As I sat to write about Bacon’s medical and behavioral issues, I noted that there had been fewer reports of seizure activity this month. Last month, we weren’t sure if the increased seizure reports were due to more people being in the building to observe him regularly or an actual increase (as his phenobarbital levels were in the therapeutic range).

But Bacon is one thing, and that is unpredictable. In the last few days, he has experienced (and staff have observed) a series of much more violent seizures during naps. These leave him out of sorts (lots of growling and hissing at nothing) and exhausted.

Do you mind? I just finished breakfast.

The thing about Bacon is that he doesn’t let these unpleasant times affect his overall demeanor. He still chirps with pleasure when his evening meal is delivered and his daytime crate is open. He continues to blink with pleasure when the staff open his office door in the morning to deliver breakfast.

Bacon’s bright and blissful evenings are only possible with the continued love and support that you provide. It is your generosity that keeps Bacon bright each day. Thank you for all you do for him!
