Update for Bacon

Dear Bacon sponsors,

Last month, Bacon decided to flip a metaphorical table on us and refuse to eat his wet food. The wet food that contained his medications. The wet food he happily ate for years. It just wasn’t good enough anymore.

This month we’ve been met with successes and failures. Most important to note, Bacon was sedated for a full exam and he was given a clean bill of health. This, unfortunately, doesn’t help us in our search why our beloved Bacon has developed a picky appetite. It seems we’re running in circles, finding a food Bacon gobbles up only for him to turn his nose up at it the next day. Sometimes, he doesn’t even give us a day, he walks away halfway through his meal! Maybe it’s not circles, no, it’s actually more like playing musical chairs. Frantic running, relief when you are safe in a chair, only to be met with more frantic running and a dwindling supply of “safe zones.”  Yes, finding Bacon’s food preference has been an unpleasant game of musical chairs.

Fortunately, unlike last month, we now do have those times of relief when Bacon eats his food. We know that he does get his medication, if not all of the time, at least some of the time. We’ve had to re-group and strategize. It doesn’t yet have a code name, but maybe we can consider Operation Barbecue. Oh, wait, no, probably not the best for a cat named Bacon. Let’s go with Operation Eggs. Bacon and Eggs…Bacon needs his eggs…his eggs are the food…get it?!

Operation Eggs has commenced. We have a clipboard outside Bacon’s room to meticulously record Bacon’s appetite, food offered, when it was offered, if he ate, how much he ate, everything you could think of. The mission, so far, has not been successful. We’ve encountered many failures along the way and lost many promising eggs to the void of “that tastes bad.”

Code language aside, this month can be summarized with successes and a few defeats. Slowly, we are moving in the right direction, and hopefully, we will soon have discovered that perfect food for our complicated Bacon.

We know outside of Tabby’s Place the world has been filled with much greater issues than one cat’s choice of food. Thank you for your continued sponsorship in a time where the future may seem uncertain. Most of all, everyone at Tabby’s Place wishes you the best in health and happiness.

Your correspondent,
Rebecca
