Bacon is an enigma.
What secrets lie behind those emerald eyes and beneath that soft, always-rumpled fur? Maybe while he snoozes the day away he’s dreaming vibrant epics wherein he’s a superhero. Maybe when he stares at visitors to his office abode he’s reading our minds, or trying to send us telepathic messages.
What does he get up to overnight when nobody is around and he has run of the office? Arts and crafts? Composing poetry? Singing songs to Sally?
We may never truly know. To love Bacon is to accept the unknowable; to give in to the wonderful mystery of such a strange little creature.
We don’t know why Bacon peed on the office floor overnight recently. (A protest of the dinner menu? Maybe he just didn’t feel like going all the way to the box? Performance art?) All we know for sure after the medical staff checked it all out, is that there is no medical cause. And it hasn’t happened again, so, for now, it’s just another Bacon mystery.
We aren’t sure why Bacon has started having rare waking seizures either. For years Bacon’s seizures have only occurred while he sleeps, but all of a sudden he scared us all with a seizure while he was awake! He’s being closely monitored, but the cause continues to confound.
Such is Bacon.
Some days I visit Bacon and am greeted with happy chirps and loving gentle rubbing against my legs and fingers. Some days he simply tolerates me, content to nap or a bit loopy from his medication.
Such is Bacon.
Bacon doesn’t bother himself with what anyone thinks – he simply is. And while the medical team puzzles over his many mysteries and his friends ponder his mercurial moods, Bacon simply keeps on, and we love him all the more for it.
As always, Karina and the staff are closely watching Bacon for any further changes. And we all continue to shower him with as much love as he’ll accept in whatever form he likes. (In my case it mostly involves holding his dish so he can eat his wet food with ease.)
And Bacon keeps on.
