Dear Supporters of Bacon,
I hope you are enjoying this season that reminds us of the good things from the past year, as well as the hopes for the New Year.
As always, I look forward to my visits with Bacon when I am at Tabby’s Place for my volunteer shift. Sometimes he’s still sleeping in his house, and I have to wait until he’s awake before I go barreling in (quietly).
But often, he is milling around, looking for adventure.
When I go in today, I find that he’s up, has a full belly (with food bowl licked clean), and he’s bursting with energy.

This is how I know: when I sit on the floor, he comes over. Sniff. Sniff. He crawls over my legs to get to the other side of the room, then comes back.
“How are you feeling today, Bacon?” I ask.
“Good,” he answers like a teenager when he has something else he’d rather be doing.
Sure enough, Bacon wanders over to his water bowl and takes a drink. He drinks, and drinks, and drinks.
I ask him about last month’s Thanksgiving with the Cats open house, and whether he enjoyed himself. As usual, he is quite thoughtful in his response.
“We got extra treats,” he says.

“Well, that sounds nice. Were there a lot of people here?” I know for a fact that hundreds came.
He meows, which I interpret as a resounding “yes.”
Though Bacon didn’t really get to see folks up close and personal, given his advanced needs, he had to be aware of the sounds in the hallway outside his room.
As the holidays draw near, and we’re all thinking about spending time with friends and family, relishing the special moments we have with our animals, and debating when to put up our decorations (I have cats at home, so I worry whether one of my little ones will climb the tree and knock off the angel), I hope we can find time to feel grateful for the wonders in our life.

I love being Bacon’s correspondent each month. He is well cared for. Although his medical issues mean he’ll never have an easy life, he has a home where he is cherished and safe, with all the delicate care he needs. From the bottom of my heart, I feel his gratitude. Tabby’s Place is a truly special place that constantly strives to make Bacon’s life better.
And, Bacon has some big news: he has human office mates! Our Foster Team is now set up in Bacon’s room. This means someone will be working in his room at some point every day, so Tabby’s Place staff can observe Bacon more closely than ever. May this be just the first of many blessings for Bacon heading into the New Year.
Bacon and I want to thank you, as always, for your continued support. We hope you have the best of holidays!
Your correspondent,
Kate
