Happy April, Bacon bunch.
Angela here, Tabby’s Place’s Development Director, pinch-hitting for your faithful correspondent Karen. It is a pleasure writing for a boy so beloved as our Bacon.
Alas, Bacon’s days have been less than lovely lately. After many severe episodes of aggression and disorientation, almost certainly due to the progression of Bacon’s neurological disease, we decided it simply wasn’t safe, for Bacon or for other cats and people, for him to remain in Adoption Room #3. And so, last month, Bacon spent an extended stay in our Exam Room. We turned this into Bacon’s private suite in an effort to…well, “reboot” him. We hoped that time in a private room would help him to calm down.
As of early April, we’ve cautiously reintegrated Bacon into Adoption Room #3, and so far he is doing well. Bacon’s peaceful return is aided by the fact that we removed Sophia, who had been the special target of Bacon’s wrath in the past. (She has a condition that causes her to sniffle almost continually, and for some reason that makes Bacon very, very agitated.)
We remain concerned about our boy, and we’ll do everything in our power to keep him — and everyone around him — comfortable. Bacon remains a favorite of many devoted volunteers — not to mention the staff — all of whom brave his “moods” to spend time with him and show him all the love he can accept.
Dear sponsors, I’m sorry to have to deliver such a sobering update. We’re hopeful that the right delicate dance of behavioral interventions and medication will help Bacon to live peaceably and happily with cats and people, and we are committed to him for the long haul. Of all the places in the world where Bacon could have found himself, Tabby’s Place is perhaps the one haven that can meet his needs.
That’s all thanks to you, and I can’t thank you enough. You are Bacon’s greatest blessings, his faithful friends in a world that sometimes frightens him. Thank you for your generous love and devotion. Have a beautiful April, dear ones.
