Update for Anka

Hello special friends,

Happy New Year! Did you know that January 1 marks the unofficial birthday of every Tabby’s Place cat? That means I just celebrated my third birthday. With a New Year and another birthday, I can’t help but reflect on how lucky I am for all the angels in my life — from Istanbul to New York, New Jersey and everywhere in between — who have helped me find this incredible home.

I’m finally over my awful and stubborn urinary tract infection. I had a form of rare and highly resistant bacteria, so the kind people here treated me with unusual antibiotics, subcutaneous fluids and lots of love and kisses. My favorite parts were the love and kisses. Thanks to the kind friends who took care of me, I’m all better now.

One thing that has not changed is my need to attack and dominate every cat around me. As a result, I’m on a higher dose of behavior medication, and I have a larger enclosure to allow me more space while keeping my elderly lobby mates safe from my wrath. Another paraplegic lobby cat, Olive, screams like nothing I’ve ever heard when she’s getting her bladder expressed. The other day, she became gazabımın hedefi (the “target of my wrath” … sounds kinder in Turkish, no?). Her resulting screams reached a new order of magnitude.

I know the sweet humans (and my elderly, fragile lobby mates) would like for me to roam free and peacefully. It’s much easier to take the cat out of the streets than it is to take the streets out of the cat. I promise I’ll try harder.

Thanks so much for being one of my angels. Sending you lots of love and kisses.

My deepest gratitude,

Anka
