Update for Anka

Dear Friends of Anka,

Anka has experienced good health this month. His new medication and feeding routine seems to be working at keeping him regular. He is once again easier to express and seems to be less bothered by the experience.

Even though Anka has not been making Aged to Purrfection visits, he has a few volunteer comfort buddies that routinely take him for outdoor stroller excursions. He LOVES these trips but HATES when they come to an end. With his big thick and fluffy coat, he doesn’t mind the winter temperatures one bit.

Speaking of Anka’s fluffy fur coat, the staff has noticed that Anka does not do a very good job keeping himself groomed. He had a spa day last week where we (Rebecca and I) gave him a thorough grooming to remove all the mats that had developed on his back. He still has some smaller ones on his chest, but he could only tolerate the fussing for so long. He is looking very smooth and handsome.

Anka versus the robotic fish

We are always looking for new ways to provide enrichment for Anka. His killer instincts often prove too much for the various electronic or robotic toys that we present. Several days ago he was offered a shallow water bowl with a robotic fish. In seconds flat, he fished it from the water, gave it a few hard shakes in his mouth, and discarded it for dead. The last electronic toy that he “killed” has a small furry fox tail that shoots out of and retreats into a crevice. He grabbed the tail, flipped the whole device over, and dragged it away. These episodes are brief and precise and remind us of what he wishes he could do to the other lobby cats.

He continues to be as charming as ever with his human visitors.
