Update for Anka

Dear fans of Anka,

Anka in his pen at the Volunteer Picnic

I’m filling in for Anka’s regular correspondent and delighted to do so.

Anka has been in good health this month. He has been a bit crankier lately during bladder/colon expression and when it is time to come out of the stroller. Unfortunately, his cranky side came out during his last nursing home visit and he is temporarily removed from Aged to Purrfection. His aggression was not directed at any resident, but he was doing a fair amount of hissing. We have encouraged volunteers to take him in the stroller to increase his stimulation. So this month he has enjoyed more frequent stroller trips outside and has experienced several lovely afternoons in the grass within the safety of our outdoor pen.

But Anka showed his winning personality once again as the guest star at our Tabby’s place volunteer picnic!  Every year the kind staff holds a wonderful picnic in early September to thank the volunteers for their devotion to Tabby’s Place.  There is food galore (donated by wonderful places nearby), raffle prizes, recognition awards (most hours served, most fill-in shifts, etc.) and this year we had a very special guest—Anka.

As you know, Anka loves the outdoors and has his own personal gated pen for just such outdoor adventures. He was in his large pen at the picnic, greeting every volunteer and staff member who stopped by, getting more pets than he could even imagine, and just relishing with delight the amount of attention that could be packed into a few hours.  Of course, he was a great hit with the volunteers and really made the event super special.

In addition to the pictures you see, Anka was also caught by Rebecca, one of our Sanctuary Associates, on video “walking.” Check it out here.

Anka lives his wonderful life in great part to your kindness and generosity.  I can’t imagine where he would be if you were not part of the Tabby’s Place family.  Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Your correspondent,
Sheila
