Update for Anastasia

Update for Anastasia

It is hard to describe the pain I feel as I write this update to inform you that our dear Anastasia is gone.
It came so suddenly and unexpectedly that we are all having a difficult time grasping the reality.

From recent updates you know that we had been worried about Ana for a few weeks.
She had that strange “episode” a few weeks ago that required a trip to the emergency vet.
Even after her return she didn’t seem “right.”
She was gulping a lot and not eating as well as we would like.

We thought that stress might play a role, so we moved her into the Lounge, where she could get lots of human attention.

The move didn’t help. She began eating even less.
Last Friday morning we decided to set her up in he Vet office, where she could be monitored continuously by our Senior Vet Tech, Denise.

By afternoon, Ana seemed much better, if still not herself.
She was eating quite well and seemed content.
We left her there for the night, surrounded by lots of food choices.

The next morning I received a phone call from the early shift that Ana had vomited during the night and was very lethargic.

I drove in quickly and took her to the emergency vet.
By the time we arrived there, she was obviously having difficulty breathing and she was rushed to the back to be looked at by a vet.

They took x-rays, placed her on oxygen support.
The x-rays showed that something was “wrong” with her lungs and her heart showed signs of imminent failure.
We had no explanation for this, as she had shown no signs of heart problems.

The medical staff tried several kinds of treatment in hopes of helping relieve her resipratory difficulties.
Nothing was working and there was nothing left to try.
Her breathing was getting worse and I made the horrible decision to let her go.
I kissed her gently as she passed and told her that she very loved and would be missed terribly.

Ana was with us for almost five years and was one of my personal favorites.
She was such a nice cat.
She had the cutest, tiniest paws and the loudest purr I have ever heard.

It all happened so quickly that it still doesn’t seem real.
But Tabby’s Place is not the same without her and the world is certainly a poorer place with her gone.
