Update for Anastasia

Greetings to Anastasia’s supporters,

Our poor little Ana has had a rough time. This month she’s been noted coughing quite a bit, and our vet was concerned about her harsh lung sounds.

So, we brought Ana to a specialist to have chest x-rays taken. While these didn’t reveal any problems in her lungs, they did show lots of excess gas in her belly. This may be caused by her frequent gulping, a nasty sign of her IBD bothering her. Ana’s also lost 0.3 lbs this month, always a concern for our tiny girl. We’re switching her antacid medication, and will be monitoring Ana especially closely, as she seems to be having a troublesome season with her severe IBD.

Fortunately, things haven’t been quite as troublesome as expected in Ana’s social world. This month we introduced beautiful tortie Beatrice to the Special Needs Suite. As Beatrice, like Ana, can have a quite dominant, non-cat-loving nature, we were concerned about sparks between the two, but they are keeping the peace impressively well so far.

While Ana and Beatrice seem to have a truce between them, there’s no such thing between Beatrice and Natasha; Beatrice seems to be bullying her poor fellow tortie.

Ana herself seems to be feeling better. She always goes straight to her food bowl after a pat or two when I come to visit. So today, I came back later and was able to have a longer visit with her while she hung out in an open crate, until she finally had enough and curled up for a nap. I guess being social can be exhausting.

Thank you so much for your kindness to Ana through all of her ups and downs. May you have a happy Thanksgiving.
