Dear Friends of our FeLV Cats,
I’m sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but we have lost our dear little Puff.
This came as a bit of a shock. If you remember, she had been diagnosed recently with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, or HCM (the most common kind of heart disease in cats) and a focal pulmonary edema (a localized accumulation of fluid in her lungs).
But, we had started her on two new medications for these issues, and she had been responding well; her most recent X-ray and lab tests showed definite improvement.
But one evening, she was found in respiratory distress. An X-ray showed that she was in congestive heart failure, and there was nothing we could do to help her.
As you know so well, Puff was quite a character. Despite her diminutive size (her long fur made her look much larger than she really was), she was quite headstrong. Yet she was readily affectionate, as well.
Puff was a great favorite with everyone. She was beautiful, she enjoyed human company, and she was instantly recognizable.
While we are heartbroken at her loss, her sojourn with us is a perfect example of the Tabby’s Place belief that all felines, regardless of age, medical issues, or temperament, deserve a chance to live in an environment where they are cherished.
Thank you for joining with us in caring for this special girl.
Your correspondent,
Stephanie
