Dear sponsors,
I’m so sorry to be the bearer of more bad news, FeLVie fans, but we’ve lost Dewie.
This came without any warning whatsoever. The only hint that anything might be even slightly wrong was his appetite. He had been quite a bit pickier about what he would eat recently. Otherwise, there had been no change in his demeanor or his behavior.
But this afternoon, Dewie was found in respiratory distress, and tests revealed he was severely anemic. Our beloved boy had quickly slipped into end-stage leukemia, and the only merciful path forward was clear. Encircled by friends, and lavished with kisses and pets, Dewie left this world gently.
Be assured that your love reached him right to the very end.
Dewie rivaled Trifecta in his love of people and his demands for attention, both of which made him a great favorite with staff, volunteers, and visitors. He loved to lie on the windowsill of his suite, especially on sunny afternoons, but he seemed equally at home in a human lap or napping in the Quinn’s Corner lobby.
Dewie will always be remembered as one of the most compassionate residents of Tabby’s Place. Not only did he bring joy to cats and people in Quinn’s Corner, but he relished his role as a certified therapy cat “off campus.” Dewie (often accompanied by Trifecta) delivered hope, laughter, and unconditional love to cancer survivors at Whisker Wednesday support group events.
His legacy of comfort will live on forever.
Thank you for helping to give Dewie such a love-filled life at Tabby’s Place, and for your generosity to all our FeLV+ cats.
Your correspondent,
Stephanie
PS: Over the next week or so, Abacus and Dewie will each have a “Forever Loved” tribute on our blog. I will include those links in your August FeLV Fund update.
