Special update for all sponsors

Special update for all sponsors

Beloved sponsors,

This is not an ordinary update. But, as you know all too well, these are not ordinary times.

First and foremost, I hope that you and your dear ones are healthy and keeping your spirits up. You are very, very dear to us at Tabby’s Place. Please know that our love and prayers are with you as we all travel through these difficult days together.

And, please rest easy that your sponsored kitties are all doing well. As far as they’re concerned, COVID-19 is no cause for concern, except for the fact that they have fewer human servants on hand. (More on that in a moment.)

But, even as we’re doing everything in our power to keep life “normal” for the cats, things are not normal in our world right now, and that includes Tabby’s Place. On Saturday 3/21, our Governor issued a statewide executive order, and we’ve had to adjust our COVID-19 response accordingly. As our most faithful and devoted supporters, we wanted to bring you up to date on how we’re adapting to these challenging times.

The key change the cats may notice is far fewer hands to serve them. That’s because, in addition to having part of our staff work from home, we’ve paused all volunteering. A pared-down group of staff is providing for our cats’ basic daily needs, including cleaning, feeding, and loving. Yes, dear sponsors; please know that the loving, cuddling and playtime continue on with gusto.

It’s the understatement of the year to say we miss our volunteers and visitors terribly. But, our priority in these unprecedented times is to protect the whole Tabby’s Place family — feline and otherwise. Accordingly, we have also closed to the public, with no visits or adoptions for the time being. This is painful; this is stranger than words can express; but this is, ultimately, an act of love and solidarity.

Our staff is staying healthy by following all CDC recommendations. We’re also working in non-overlapping teams, to reduce disruption to our cats’ care in the event of an infected individual. We have stockpiled an abundance of supplies, from medications to prescription food to humdrum daily items like paper dishes, and this cache will last for a long duration.

What about veterinary care? Our devoted vet team remains here for our cats, now and forever. Dr. C is coming in at least once a week, and our staff hasn’t missed a beat in providing daily medications, monitoring our fragile kitties, and calling upon emergency services as needed. (I’m grateful to report that none of your sponsored kitties have had any notable medical issues in this difficult time. Of course, we’ll always keep you posted on their well-being.)

The suites of Tabby’s Place are far quieter these days. You can almost feel the walls and cubbies themselves sighing for the missing laughter of visitors and volunteers. But we trust and know that these surreal days will eventually give way to blessed “normalcy.” Once again, Tabby’s Place will be bustling with cat champions of all ages, playing and giggling and nurturing and loving the cats — and each other.

Now, more than ever, please know how much we love you, dear sponsors. We are often humbled when we think of how you choose to give your hearts and your resources to our little cats, of all creatures. But, especially in these lonely days, we feel your love and devotion across the miles, and we are grateful beyond all measure.

Since your kitties’ volunteer correspondents won’t be able to visit with the cats this month, your regularly-scheduled updates may be a bit delayed or abridged. But, we promise to keep you posted on major happenings. And, most of all, we promise to deliver your love to the cats every single day, no matter what happens.

We are all in this together.
We love you, beautiful sponsors.
Thank you from the depths of our hearts.

Warmly,
Angela (Tabby’s Place’s Development Director), on behalf of all the cats and humans
