Sandy

Sandy

We accepted Sandy and Chipper together from a woman whose death from cancer was imminent. She had found homes for her other cats, but Sandy & Chipper had little hope of finding a safe haven. They are both 13 years old, Sandy is diabetic and Chipper has only 3 legs.In addition, they are so tightly bonded to each other that we felt it would be a crime to separate them. So, because of Sandy’s diabetes, Chipper also lives in the Secial Needs Suite. The diet we feed in this suite is not ideal for him, but the need for him to be with Sandy outweighed this small concern.Diabetes results when an animal’s pancreas is unable to produce adequate amounts of insulin, a hormone especially important for metabolizing carbohydrates. The primary signs of diabetes are increased drinking, increased urination, and weight loss.Left untreated, diabetes can be painful and, even, fatal.Diabetes is most often treated by the administration of insulin, to replace that which the body isn’t producing.Sandy1.jpgSandy’s diabetes is currently well regulated. He is on insulin twcie daily, but the special diet we feed in that suite keeps his insulin needs to a minimum.

Sandy is still quite scared and does not feel particularly comfortable or safe, just yet. But, he is slowly coming around and we expect him to adjust to his new home within the next few weeks.Sandy2.jpgSandy is great looking cat. But, his age and his diabetes (not to mention that the new owner would also have to adopt Chipper), make it unlikely that he would be adopted. So, please sponsor Sandy and help us to care for him.
