Sammy

Sammy

Sammy is a 16 year-old long-haired tabby and you can see form the photos how incredibly cute he is.So you may bw wondering how he ended up here at Tabby’s Place.Well, his former owner developed Alzheimer’s Disease and Sammy was becoming badly neglected. The daughter of his former owner even found him wandering around outside several times when she went to visit her mother. The daughter and her husband were highly allergic to cats and couldn’t keep Sammy. She tried diligently to find a home for him, but you can imagine the difficulty she faced in trying to find a home for a 16 year-old cat.We were very happy to have a spot for Sammy.

Because of his age, we drew blood and did a full “senior screen” on the sample during his initial examination. The blood work indicated that Sammy’s kidneys are not working as well as we would like and one of his liver enzymes was slightly elevated.None of the values were bad enough to warrant treatment, but they did demand that Sammy be monitored carefully.Sammy1.jpgInitially, Sammy was in Suite B, with the mellow cats, and seemed to be doing just fine. But, after about a week we noticed that he seemed “off”. One day he didn’t greet us at the door with his unique meow and he stopped eating.

Our vet drew blood to send off for anaylsis and we have scheduled an ultrasound for him, as his blood analysis upon intake showed that some of his liver enzymes were slightly elevated.Sammy2.jpgSammy is so adorable and friendly that we hope that he will be adopted, despite his age and potential gastrointestinal issues. But, in all honesty, his age is a serious impediment to his chances of adoption. So, please consider sponsoring Sammy and helping us to care for him as he needs and deserves.
