Pookie
Pookie was owned by an elderly man who began to develop Alzheimer’s Disease. As the disease progressed, Pookie’s health and safety were beginning to be jeopardized. The man was not careful about kepping the doors closed and Pookie would often escape and wander out into the street.
The man’s son wanted to help, but he had several cats of his own and couldn’t mix Pookie with his other cats.He tried to inmpress upon his father the importance of keeping the outside doors closed, but this was doing no good.Frequently, when he visited his father’s house, he would find Pookie outside. The son tried to find a home for Pookie, but it is hard enough to find a home for any cat, much less an FIV+ cat.Nearing the end of his rope, someone told him about Tabby’s Place. We are so happy that Pookie is now with us, where he will be safe.
Cats that are FIV+ have been infected with the Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV).This virus disables or destroys the white blood cells, and leaves the cat susceptible to infections. Once a cat is infected with FIV, the cat is infected for life and can transmit the virus if he or she bites another cat.Our FIV+ cats have their own suite and we are extra-careful about disease control procedures in their suite. In addition, they are fed a higher-quality (and more expensive) diet than our other cats, in hopes of boosting their immune systems.
As you can see from the photos, Pookie is a BIG boy. But, he is quite cute (if you like ’em big) and very friendly with people. But, because he is FIV+, his chances of adoption are greatly lessened and he requries extra veterinary attention. Please sponsor Pookie and help us to give him the care he deserves.
