Paulette

Paulette

Paulette was homeless until she was taken into the home of a kind human. He was caring for several cats at the time of his passing in 2011. Fortunately, he had signed up for the Guardian Angel Program, so Paulette and her housemates came to Tabby’s Place.

Although she is not hostile, Paulette doesn’t appear to socialize much, either with humans or other cats. She can often be found at the top of a ramp, either inside or out in the solarium of her suite. However, if you bring a ladder and perhaps a little treat, plus a loving heart, she may trust you, and once her trust is earned, she will respond to affection with satisfied purring.

You can see that Paulette has only one eye. The other was malformed and useless, and was removed soon after she arrived at Tabby’s Place. But that’s not the only physical problem she has had.

All her teeth have been removed due to a severe case of lymphocytic plasmacytic gingivitis (LPS), an autoimmune disease of the gums and lining of the mouth and throat. Far more severe than gingivitis, it results from a cat being allergic to the plaque in her own mouth – and, as in Paulette’s case, it can be devastatingly painful. Fortunately, removing her teeth has eliminated her agony.

Due to the severity of Paulette’s condition, she will almost certainly require steroid medication for the rest of her life, as well as frequent check-ups from the Tabby’s Place veterinarian to prevent further discomfort in her mouth.

This small grey tabby might be easily overlooked because she doesn’t have a fancy coat or an outgoing personality, but Paulette can reward anyone who takes the time to get to know her and accept her as she is. If you would like to prepare the way to a happier future for her, would you consider becoming a sponsor of Paulette?
