Miyagi is one of our cats from Okinawa—yes, the Okinawa in Japan. He’s a handsome grey tabby, young (born in 2008) and healthy as far as we can determine.

He and his two siblings, Pikachu and Kimiko, are very frightened, a small wonder, as they’ve experienced such as enormous change to their world. These shy babies are now part of our socialization program which means some of our volunteers and staff are dedicated specifically to the task of spending time with them in hopes of helping them come around. Progress has been slow with Miyagi so far, but we’re letting him settle in here at his own pace. For the present, we’re recommending that these cats (they do not need to be adopted together, but we’d like potential adopters to at least consider doing so) go to a quiet home with a owner who has the time and patience to let adjust. Note that the three Okinawans get along wonderfully with other cats, as long as the other cats aren’t too domineering.

Some people claim there are no more heroes in this world, but we know better. A young Marine in Okinawa is now one of our heroes, as he was the driving force behind saving these cats’ lives. To read more of their incredible true story, click this link.
