Lady

Lady

At 20 years of age, Lady is one of our two oldest cats in residence (the other is Tabby).Lady shared a home with three other cats and an eldery woman.

Unfortunately, the elderly woman died and had not made plans for her cats. The woman’s daughter wanted to help, but she had eight cats and simply couldn’t take in another four.In addition, the cats were in New York and the daughter lived 50 miles away in New Jersey. The daughter traveled to the house to feed the cats as often as possible, but it was simply an unmanageable situation. In addition, she was very worried about Lady, due to her ageFrom the moment she came to Tabby’s Place, Lady had chronic diarrhea. We tried the simple methods of curing it (dietary change, medication). But, when none of those worked, we had an ultrasound performed. The ultrasound showed that lady had some inflammatory changes in her GI system.

These changes are indicative of cancer or inflammatory bowel disease.Obtaining a definitive diagnosis would require invasive surgery. In addition, if it were cancer, the treatment of preference would be a long course of chemotherapy.Given her age, we did not feel it was fair to put Lady through the surgery, long recovery and possible chemotherapy.Lady1.jpgSo, we have opted to treat Lady in a non-invasive manner, with a drug to control the inflammation (and resulting diarrhea) and bi-monthly vet checkups, to track any changes in her abdomen. We have had several other cats in similar situations and they have done very well, sometimes for many months, under this regimen.Lady2.jpgLady is a real sweetheart. She is gentle, but can handle herself just fine in a suite full of cats. And, if a lap appears in the room, she will quickly occupy the lap, if at all possible.

But we also know that Lady will live her life out here, where we can monitor her carefully and give her the love and attention she deserves. Please sponsor Lady and help us to care for her and make the last part of her life as happy as possible.
