Lacey

Lacey

Cats are often admired as mysterious creatures, and lovely Lacey takes the mystery to a new level.

We’ll never know just what happened to this gentle torbie girl, but something in Lacey’s past set her up for a future of Special Needs.Poor Lacey suffered a trauma that injured her spine and fractured her pelvis, which left her paraparetic: partially paralyzed in her hind quarters. As a result, Lacey is partially incontinent, unable to fully empty her bladder or colon, and prone to painful constipation. In addition, her tail is almost completely limp, and her hind legs are a bit weak.

But that’s the only thing “weak” about Lacey. With a zest for life and a mischievous streak matched only by her sweetness, Lacey’s not letting any old injury keep her down. As only a cat can do, Lacey lives fully “in the moment” – and, since coming to Tabby’s Place, Lacey’s moments major in love.

Much as she craves them – and loudly as she purrs – cuddles aren’t quite enough to keep our ladylike girl comfortable. In addition to manually expressing her bladder twice daily, the Tabby’s Place team treats Lacey with several medications. Both a beta-blocker and a bladder relaxant help Lacey to urinate, while a prescription diet, two forms of laxatives and a gastrointestinal mobility drug help her to “keep things moving” through her colon more comfortably. We were delighted to find that Lacey responded very positively to weekly laser treatment and biweekly acupuncture with a stimulator unit. Although these newer treatments don’t help every cat, they’ve been a blessing to Lacey, helping her to more fully empty her colon – and keeping her in the comfort she deserves.

Lacey is such a love bug that we hope she may find a forever home. Until that time, she’s loving her days as feline queen of our vet office, where she serves as mascot, adores her “servants” (our veterinary team), and avoids having to deal with other members of her species. You can help to keep Lacey loving life and feeling good as her generous monthly sponsor.
