Jasmine

From all the way down in Tennessee comes Jasmine, a black long-haired female who has reached the golden age of 14.On a routine visit to vet, it was discovered that she has Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy, or HCM, which is the most common form of heart disease found in cats.HCM is a heart muscle disease in which the muscular walls of the left ventricle become abnormally thickened. The disease may progress rapidly or it may stabilize for a long period of time. While there is no cure for HCM, several medications are used to reduce the signs of heart failure and help the heart function as efficiently as possible.

Despite having Jasmine since kittenhood, her owner decided to have her put down. The veterinarian did not want to euthanize this sweet girl, as she was stable and did not require any medication. He contacted Tabby’s Place to see if she could be saved, and now Jasmine is here with us.Jasmine1.jpgJasmine is being closely monitored and continues to show no symptoms of the disease. It is impossible to predict the course of this disease, but Jasmine will be given an ultrasound twice a year. This is an expensive test (approximately $300 each time), but it is the best way to determine if her condition has changed. If it does worsen, she will require heart medication. Jasmine2.jpgPlease consider sponsoring Jasmine. She is a sweet and well-refined lady for whom we would never give up hope that she might be adopted. She’s come a long way already, and we can use your help to give her the best care possible.
