Gingko

Talk about exotic looking! Gingko is a medium-to-long haired boy, possibly with some Maine Coon in his ancestry. The mix of other colors in his coat is remarkable; there’s a broad, dark stripe down his head, back, and tail, and he has some tabby striping, but the rest of his coat is an unusual mottled pattern of black and brown. He attracts a lot of attention, as you’d guess. Gingko was born about mid-1998, so he’s a senior cat. I was told he was shy initially, but the first time I met him he came right up to ask for attention and even climbed into my lap. Once he warms up to people (if he has to warm up to them), he’s quite affectionate. Gingko can be very vocal at times.

Some time before coming to us, Gingko had a sub-total colectomy, which means that his colon was removed, an operation performed due to chronic constipation. As a result, he occasionally leaks stool, though he can go for periods of time without doing so. Gingko is on a probiotic and a gastrointestinal antibiotic and he’ll have to remain on both for the foreseeable future.

Gingko is an excellent example of the Tabby’s Place mission—adopting harder-to-place animals. We understand that he isn’t suitable for every home environment, but we know there are some very special people in this world who can appreciate all cats for what they are. If you’re one of them, we’d love to have you come in to meet our beautiful boy.

UPDATE (8/20/13): Gingko was recently diagnosed with lymphoma.
