Butterfly

We have to start by telling you that “Fly” (as Butterfly is affectionately known) is so adorable that it is almost unbearable.

Fly was rescued from the home of a hoarder (someone who collects a large number of animals but does not take care of them). She was found nursing two tiny kittens, one of which did not survive.Upon examination it became clear that Fly had a spinal deformity that made walking almost impossible. In addition, Fly was undersized due to severe malnutrition and seemed to be “mentally challenged”.Fly had spinal surgery, which enabled her to walk, though with difficulty.

You really have to see Fly to appreciate both her “problems” as well as her cuteness. She is so small that people mistake her for a kitten (in fact, Fly is two years old and fully grown).Fly has learned to cope with her spinal problem quite well and she can actually run when she wants to, though her rear end skids around like a car losing traction in the snow. She has trouble climbing and cannot jump.Butterfly1.jpgLastly, Fly’s incomplete mental development leads to some quirky characteristics. One of her most endearing traits is that she can confuse hissing and purring. When you approach her, she will sometimes hiss at you in greeting.Because she can hurt herself if she tries to climb the furniture in the suites, Fly is a resident of the lobby and serves as an official Tabby?s Place ?Greeter?.

Despite her multiple disabilities, Fly seems to be thriving at Tabby’s Place. However, her spinal problems can lead to other orthopedic issues (for example, she has recently developed a problem with her left kneecap due to her awkward gait). There is also the possibility that she could require further corrective surgery in the future.Butterfly2.jpgWe are hoping that Butterfly will be adopted eventually, since she is so delightful and loves human attention. But, we know that her disabilities greatly lessen her likelihood of adoption. Please sponsor Fly and help us to care for her.
