Arlo

Arlo

Arlo was one of several cats owned by a local family.Arlo always seemed anxious to explore the “great outdoors” and one day he slipped outside. He reappeared several days later with signs that he had been in a fight.

They took him to the vet and discovered to their dismay that we was now FIV+.They did not want to risk keeping Arlo with their other cats, so they asked their vet for suggestions.

It is difficult to find a safe haven for any unwanted cat, but it is almost impossible for an FIV+ cat.because Arlo was so adorable and friendly, the vet was anxious to find a suitable placement for him.The vet had recently heard of Tabby’s Place, so he called us, saying that he was willing to hold Arlo until a spot opened for him.We were all happy when we were finally able to accept ArloCats that are FIV+ have been infected with the Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV).This virus disables or destroys the white blood cells, and leaves the cat susceptible to infections. Once a cat is infected with FIV, the cat is infected for life and can transmit the virus if he or she bites another cat.

Our FIV+ cats have their own suite and we are extra-careful about disease control procedures in their suite. In addition, they are fed a higher-quality (and more expensive) diet than our other cats, in hopes of boosting their immune systems.Arlo1.jpgArlo is exceptionally handsome (as you can see) and just loves people. We are, therefore, hopeful that he will be adopted eventually, despite his FIV+ status. But we also know that his chances of adoption are greatly diminished and that he will likely be with us for a long time. Please sponsor Arlo and help us to care for him as he needs and deserves.Arlo2.jpg
