Albert
Pictures just cannot do this boy any justice! Visit this black cat and you will find a colorful purrsonality shine through that will steal your heart. Our Albert has a cute face, adorable voice when he does “talk” and is one of several diabetics who have found sanctuary at Tabby’s Place.Sweet Albert came to Tabby’s Place during 2008 and is no doubt a very special, sweet boy.
When Albert first arrived at Tabby’s Place, he was an “unregulated” diabetic. He was unregulated for so long that he was and continues to suffer from diabetic neuropathy. This is a condition from when the glucose levels in a cat have been so high for so long that it causes nerve damage. Albert’s diabetic neuropathy has affected his back legs causing him to walk more on his hocks (part of the bottom of his legs) than his feet and toes – it kind of looks like how a kangaroo walks.
Once regulated, sometimes the damage is corrected, but so far Albert has not been so fortunate and still walks on his hocks. Now at Tabby’s Place, Albert is on a regulated schedule of insulin twice a day and he is given a special diet for the condition as well.
Albert is pretty laid back and can often be found in a crate or charging towards one when you enter his room in the hopes that you have brought him a meal. Though he is occasionally a bit moody when medical testing needs to be done (for example, checking his blood glucose levels), he is otherwise a love who has quickly become a favorite for some volunteers and staff members.
Albert is safe here at Tabby’s Place and well cared for, but we are always hoping the best situation will come a long – a family to call his own. Until that time though, he requires special care and so your gift of sponsorship will help us continue to treat this boy like the prince he is and keep him comfortable.
