FeLV+, FIV+

Ponce de Leon may be named after an explorer, but as an older fellow, he prefers to spend his days of retirement lounging in leisure rather than swashbuckling across the globe. Ponce loves to lounge in a nice, cushy bed by the window and soak up that sunshine. Come for a visit and maybe he’ll find the map to your heart – or into your lap! This handsome boy is not shy about asking for love when he’s in the mood and may even crawl into your lap if you sit on the floor with him.

Ponce de Leon is one of a few cats in our sanctuary who is double positive for FeLV+ and FIV+.  FeLV, or feline leukemia, is an immunosuppressive virus. The lifespan of cats with FeLV is variable, but cats with FeLV live happy lives and many have normal life spans. FeLV is not transmissible to humans or other species, but it can be transmissible to other cats. It is not recommended that a cat with FeLV cohabitates with FeLV negative cats, but they can cohabitate with other positive cats. FIV+ is a similar virus that also further suppresses the immune system, but it is generally not considered as severe as FeLV+. Even with his weakened immune system, Ponce is currently heathly and ready for an indoor only home!

In terms of other cats, Ponce gets along just fine with his roommates. He’s an easygoing, “no trouble” kind of due who just wanted to love and be loved. He’d do well as a solo cat or in a home with other laidback felines.

Ponce de Leon is looking for a home as dignified as he is. Could that be with you? Consider filling out an online adoption application today!
