Elvira is a little heartbreaker – or maybe a not-so-little-heartbreaker, but she is adorable no matter what! This little “Mistress of the Dark” definitely looks the part with her oodles of pitch-black fluff and wide, round eyes. There is definitely a bit of chunkiness underneath her luscious mane, but her 80s hairdo makes her seem larger than life! Truly, Elvira is a beautiful girl.
Elvira came to us from another shelter, so her background is a little hazy. We can only assume she was once someone’s beloved housecat and received lots of love in her younger years. We are glad that we could welcome Elvira into our sanctuary and help her find a Forever Home!
As are several of our other cats at Tabby’s, Elvira is special needs. As far as we are able to determine, Elvira is completely blind or has very limited vision. You would never guess that from how she gets around, however! Elvira is outgoing and active and very good at following people and noises. She loves to follow volunteers and staff around the lobby as they work, happy to just hang out beside you and “see” what you are doing.
Due to her blindness, Elvira needs a special family. While navigation does not seem to be a huge issue for her, she can easily become startled if she is approached quickly and has given a few people a couple of defensive nips. She has been known to give a startled swat to people who walk by her a bit too fast for her comfort. Elvira isn’t an aggressive cat; she’s just nervous when she is touched without her expecting it. She would do best with a patient family that allows her to show them when she wants attention. She would also likely do best in a quieter home without small children who might not understand why she gets scared. She would love to be an only cat or in a home with other laidback cats who will give her some space.
