Dearest Team Peabody,

We must begin this update with a few precautionary questions.

Are you sitting down?

Are you fully prepared for an incoming miracle?

Are you ready to get all happy-weepy and possibly even dance?

Good. Then it’s safe to tell you what you made possible.

Your Peabody has just been adopted!

And oh, dear sponsors, the true story is more wonderful than any dream. Our silky, snuggly boy with the heart as big as St. Louis has truly met his match.

As you know better than anyone, Peabody is one hundred percent kindness. Tender and gentle, he is warmth and whimsy from his woolly white toes to his elfin ear hair.

There is not a cruel bone in his body. (Often, it appears there are no bones at all in that wiggly body, which turns to “feline fettucine” as he wriggles up cat trees in defiance of gravity!)

In the presence of Peabody, everyone knows they are as lovable as life itself.

Cats know it, and they are drawn to him as if to sunlight. From lovestruck Luna and smitten Tootsie to longtime bestie Berry, Peabody turns friends into family.

People know it, and they giggle in the wake of his greatness. Peabody does not need to sniff you before deciding you are perfect. With gushy giddiness (the mark of a true genius), he greets new and old faces (or, more precisely, shins) with the strongest snuggle-power on Earth.

Our Founder & Executive Director, Jonathan, certainly knows it, which is why he greeted Peabody’s big news with a cry of, “we can’t let this happen!”

You will understand why we all felt the same way.

How could we live without a cat who reminds us all that life is glorious, no matter what challenges you face? How could we let anyone take the treasure who makes everyone feel so treasured?

There’s just one thing we love more than being with Peabody.

Peabody himself.

And so, the miracle unfurled.

A kind woman expressed interest in Peabody. Our Adoptions Team duly informed her of his needs. But instead of being daunted, she was delighted. Peabody was precisely the boy of her dreams.

Who dreams of a paraplegic, incontinent cat who will always need extra tender care?

A veterinarian, that’s who — and not just any vet, but an actual angel who loved her previous paraplegic cat with all her soul.

We quickly realized that Peabody and his new Mom already had a family resemblance. They are both love on legs.

When Peabody’s Mom brought him home yesterday, there was not a dry eye in the house. We promised Luna, Berry, Tootsie, and all his buddies that we will lavish them with kisses and chicken. We hugged each other in the jubilant grief of the best goodbye.

Yet we know this is not “goodbye.”

Because, once you’re part of the Tabby’s Place family, you’re family forever.

Dear sponsors, you will forever be the heart of Peabody’s family. Your generosity was the great sweetness of his life. He thrived in the safety of being your first choice cat, exactly the way he is. You gave him the strength to comfort everyone he meets.

It’s been a marathon of miracles for the broken little stray who scarcely made it off the Missouri roadside two years ago.

And for the rest of his days, Peabody will always be yours.

Now, we simply must dance. Go on, wherever you are, whoever is watching. Peabody insists.

Since Peabody has found his forever family, your sponsorship has been transferred to another Advanced Needs cat: darling Deku, one of Peabody’s close personal friends in our lobby. Like your Peabody, Deku is a sweet spirit who has overcome formidable challenges. Born with a rare neurological disorder, Deku needs delicate care, but his top priority is being held upside-down like a newborn baby for as many hours a day as possible.
