Update for Regina

Dear Team Regina,

Welcome to Regina’s world!

Wow, are you in for a treat this month!  In fact, two very special treats! Fully live and direct from her throne room at Tabby’s Place, we present fabulous footage of our darling diva, Regina, for your viewing pleasure (see the videos at the end of this update). Sit back, relax, and enjoy as our favorite little feline miss makes her star turn in front of the cameras.

After all we’ve told you about Regina’s superlative athletic prowess, we would surely be remiss if we didn’t share her playtime exploits with you. Our girl is fierce with a ball, as we’ve already shared with you. Now, take a look at her finesse, agility, and speed with a play wand. Have you ever seen such rapid reflexes? And what about that steady gaze on the object of her attention?

Yes, Regina is a whiz with a wand or any other toy that captures her fancy. Always in training for her next athletic event, she is a lithe and agile competitor, an energetic and nimble contender in any sport she chooses.

When Regina takes a break for her royal repasts, she certainly has a healthy appetite. She has been doing well with her dietary routine, so we are transitioning her to a different wet food slowly over a 10-day period. This will provide a wider variety for her kitchen crew when preparing her royal feasts.

Moving on, we also offer you a charming video of Regina enjoying the attention of one of her many volunteer socializers—a member of her royal court or entourage, so to speak. Have you ever seen a cat or kitten who so enthusiastically embraces their regal status? Some girls simply have all the luck and enjoy their noble status accordingly. Regina, it seems, was to the manor born and relishes all the attention and adoration she can get.

Actually, Regina also has another unique characteristic that makes her special: a “spina bifida button.”  This is not an official term, but she does have a small spot on her lower back that will occasionally ooze and then scab over. The staff who help with her bladder expression know to be careful when handling her, and most of the time the area is safely covered and protected by her scoot skirts.

Now for some sad news: Regina and the Tabby’s Place family lost two of our double-positive FIV/FeLV friends, Abacus and Dewie, within days of each other in July. We also had a kitten arrive with suspected FIP, who was then rushed to the emergency vet. Unfortunately, he didn’t survive the drive there.

But the wonderful thing about Tabby’s Place is we are a huge family. We are there for one another through both grief and celebrations. You play a huge part in keeping our family so connected, even if you are far across the globe. Our loving friends worldwide really are with us every step of the way in all we do.

Happily, there are so many other things to celebrate at Tabby’s Place. Later this month, we will be launching our annual Linda Fund Matching Challenge. This year’s poster cat is none other than official feline Development Office Supervisor, Willie!

And, while Regina is disappointed she is not the poster cat for the challenge, she is providing Willie with plenty of suggestions regarding just how to represent Tabby’s Place in regal fashion. Believe me when I say our darling diva is a copious note-taker and every bit the queen of elegance and good form. Her tutoring does make Willie a bit nervous, but we’re certain he is up to the job! How could any cat who has come so far in his arduous journey to good health not succeed at such a task?

We’ll be celebrating our volunteers at their annual picnic later this month. Volunteers are such a vital part of our phenomenal family. We simply could not successfully complete our mission without the unwavering devotion of our sponsors and volunteers to our quirky cast of cats. For this, Regina and I thank you from the bottom of our hearts! With all of your love, we are truly blessed.
