November greetings to you, and to all our kind and caring Kitten Fund sponsors!
First this month, an update on little Siamese mix Coconut, whose medical issues were described here last month. While the existing issue hasn’t gotten worse, she began to have diarrhea, and so she was put on medication for it. The meds are helping, but for observation as well as for easier cleanup, Coconut was temporarily moved from the Kitten Room to the internal hospital for treatment, where she remains while her condition improves.
At the top of the screen are sleepy Tomato and Quark. Before visiting, I’d seen an advisory that Tomato is the last of his litter and is a little extra rambunctious. That includes climbing pant legs and placing himself on the back of a visitor, and that, understandably, is frowned upon. However, I can report that Tomato was on his best behavior that afternoon. He spent the better part of an hour on my lap, sharing it from time to time with Quark and Electron, which you’ll find a little ways away on this screen. But he never came close to misbehavior, for which he was praised and loved on and given much positive reinforcement.
Comings and Goings: Tabby’s Place’s Instagram page provides a visual summary of October adoptions, which are also described in Development Director Angela’s Epilogues blog post. Tiana, Sanctuary Associate & Foster Team Lead, summed it up this way: “Kitten season had a very brief intermission in September, but came back strong this month! We had 23 new cats added to foster, with 21 new kittens.” There are so many good humans who volunteer their time and more to foster them, and good humans like you provide generous donations that help give the babies a fighting chance. Everyone at Tabby’s Place thanks you for caring.
On Saturday, November 23, we will be celebrating “Thanksgiving with the Cats” right here at Tabby’s Place. The event is open to the public for visits and self-guided tours from 12 to 4 pm. More details at the link just above.
On to more kitten pictures! Volunteer Natasha provided this image of tiny Lilo. (There’s another adorable photo of her on Epilogues.)
Also in October, a one-time volunteer at Tabby’s Place returned for an afternoon and brought her daughter along. Rebecca admired Quinn’s Corner, which had gone up since her previous visit. She made sure to visit the kittens and provided this sweet photo of three of them snuggling.
And just one more picture before I go: During one of my October visits, a volunteer came in to give the kittens some fresh water. When she finished, she set the container on the floor to free up her hands for petting kittens. With the help of the pink container, Coconut stretched her full length to watch her.
Until next month, wishing you all good things,
Your correspondent,
John
